The usual puncture area for palpation is just medial and inferior to the midpoint of a line drawn between the ASIS and the pubic symphysis, approximately 1–2 cm inferomedial to the inguinal crease.

With your dominant hand, place the pads of your index and middle fingers gently on the landmarks described. Palpation of the femoral pulse is noninvasive and generally safe, but excessive force can cause discomfort or obscure the waveform.
