Where Is the Gmail Address Book: Locate and Manage Contacts

Where to Find the Gmail Address Book

The Gmail address book is Google Contacts. To open it from Gmail on the web, click the Google apps launcher (grid) and select Contacts. In the Gmail mobile app, tap the menu to open Navigation and choose Contacts. Google Contacts stores all contact details and integrates with Gmail, Calendar, and other Google services. It syncs across devices using your Google Account. This guide explains where to locate it, how to access it on different devices, and core operations.

How to Open Google Contacts on Web

On desktop, the quickest path is through the Gmail interface or Google apps launcher:

  • From Gmail: In Gmail, click the Contacts icon in the lower-left toolbar (below More).
  • From the launcher: In Google.com, click the launcher (nine dots), then select Contacts.
  • Direct URL: Visit contacts.google.com while signed in.

The Contacts UI appears as a side panel or separate page, showing your contact list and search. From here you can add, edit, import, export, and manage groups.

Gmail Toolbar Contact Shortcut

When composing a message in Gmail, the Contacts icon in the bottom-left opens your address book in a panel, allowing you to search and insert addresses quickly without leaving the compose window.

Using Google Apps Launcher

The launcher on Google.com provides consistent access to Contacts, Drive, Calendar, and other core apps, regardless of which product you currently use.

Accessing Google Contacts on Mobile

On Android and iOS, the address book is inside the Google Contacts app and through Gmail’s navigation.

  • Dedicated app: Install Google Contacts from the Play Store or App Store; it opens your full address book and supports offline lists and sync.
  • Gmail app: Open Navigation (three lines), scroll to Contacts, and tap to open your list.
  • Android shortcut: On supported devices, add Contacts to your home screen for faster access.

Sync and Device Integration

Ensure your Google Account sync is enabled so contacts appear consistently across web, Android, and iOS. On Android, check Settings > Google > Contacts to confirm sync is on.
